COSMO-SYNTHETIC PAPER

Cosmo Synthetic Paper (CSP) has the appearance and feel of traditional paper, but with a number of advantages. It may be printed on, folded, sliced, and even written on, but unlike regular paper, CSP is noted for its toughness and durability. Tearing is extremely tough, bordering on impossibility. Apart from that, CSP does not absorb liquid or crumble in humid conditions; in fact, if liquid spills on the surface, it can be wiped away. It is chemically resistant and can be utilised in situations where conventional paper would fail. As a result, it’s reasonable to claim that CSP is not only water-resistant but also weather-resistant. Daks manufactures and uses this non tearable paper because of the wide variety of benefits it provides. Also read our blog on SOY FABRIC HERE.

CSP is a biodegradable plastic-based film that has a paper-like look. It is designed to be long-lasting, although it looks and prints like regular paper. Synthetic paper is made with synthetic resin obtained from petroleum as the primary component. As a result, it exhibits qualities similar to plastic film. Its appearance is similar to that of wood pulp paper. Several synthetic sheets also exhibit qualities that are similar to those of ordinary paper. Synthetic sheets were designed to be as tough as plastic. They do, however, look, feel, and print like regular paper. Fibre synthetic paper and film synthetic paper are two forms of resin-based synthetic papers based on their manufacturing technique. Film synthetic paper is more widespread nowadays.

CSP can be printed using a variety of printing processes, including:

1.Offset printing (wet and UV)

2.Flexographic printing (wet and UV)

3.Letterpress

4.Printing on a screen

5.Transfer of heat

6.Rotogravure

  1. Previously, printers had to coat or overlap paper to acquire increased durability or gloss, but with CSP, they can accomplish these qualities with only one stock. This eliminates a step on the press, increasing turnaround time and lowering costs.\
  1. Certain qualities of synthetic paper are similar to those of paper and film. The former is made of resin. As a result, they have several favourable film qualities such as grease resistance, tear resistance, and water resistance. It also has the bright white, writable surface of paper.
  2. Synthetic papers offer a variety of functions for printing, packaging, and labelling in a variety of industries, including medicines, cosmetics, and food and beverage. The former is both water-resistant and long-lasting. Oil resistance, chemical resistance, and rip resistance are all crucial features. Synthetic qualities have become prominent as materials of choice in a variety of end-user sectors due to their enhanced performance and printability.
  1. Synthetic papers are durable and have the ability to handle high-resolution printing. Cosmo Synthetic papers are used in a variety of ways, all of which rely on these properties in some way. Synthetic papers are used in any application where long-term durability is required. When compared to paper, they are more tear-resistant, chemical-resistant, and water-resistant. They also have a longer lifespan. Synthetic papers have the added benefit of being easy to print.

SOY FABRIC : THE VEGAN FABRIC

As obvious as it sounds , Soy fabric is derived from soybeans , which is a plant. We have all heard about Soy, which is a nutritious legume and is widely used but is indegineous to Asia. It is a protein dense food and used in diets . While it is unknown to most,  soybeans were used in Japan to make fabric back in the 1940s. Though they were successful in making the fabric . But it was not functional at that time. But now his protein based fibre has gained popularity due to its environmental properties.

China is the biggest producer of soy fabric along with the United States and Brazil. The cost of soy fabric is almost the same as that of cotton. There are different types of soy fabrics which include Pure Soy Fabric , which is made from pure soy protein which is flexible and shiny, Soy-Cotton and is a blend of cotton and soy and has the luster of silk, and Soy-Wool which is good for winter . It  is gentle on the skin and is used in the production of  shirts and clothing. It is eco-friendly and has a silky and soft feel to it.

Soy protein fibre is produced from byproducts of the soybean industry. Soy Fabric has antibacterial activity and is friendly to the environment. It is silky , soft and is breathable and comfortable. It has a cashmere feel to it as the fibres and light and soft. This fabric has a luxurious touch to it and it drapes elegantly and can be used in sarees and scarves like silk. This fabric holds its colours and is extremely high in moisture absorbility.

VEGETABLE CAHSMERE

It is one of the most environmentally friendly fabrics. Primarily manufacturers use natural processes to separate the protein present in soybean hulls from other compounds. Then the soybean protein slurry is exposed to treatments that reduce its coarseness with the use of alkali. Then the resulting slurry is extruded through spinnerets. Chemicals are then used to increase its durability. Then the fibres are spinned into a yarn and sent for dyeing without exposing it to bleach.

Soy fabric has a complex and multifaceted environmental impact. On the surface, soy fabric appears to be one of the most environmentally friendly fabrics because it is made from a waste material. The production of soy fabric diverts waste from the landfill and gives it a new purpose. Soy fabric is truly lovely, and it can be used for a wide variety of garments and soft furnishings. As some fabrics become more difficult to produce and we shift away from environmentally damaging synthetic materials, natural fabrics such as soy will become increasingly popular. It also has the huge advantage of being relatively inexpensive to produce.

One disadvantage of soy fabric is  that 70% of the world’s soy fabric is currently manufactured in China . It uses almost exclusively genetically modified soy. The plant necessitates a large amount of irrigation and pesticides for cultivation. The use of alkali is dangerous . In the pursuit of maximum profit, textile manufacturers frequently disregard environmental priorities in China.

Lyocell : THE SUSTAINABLE FABRIC

Daks  focuses heavily on fair trade and ethically and ecologically sustainable sourced supply chains.  Our lyocell fabrics are made into fibre using environmentally friendly organic chemicals that are 100 percent recyclable. It is almost like finding a needle in hay , when one is searching for sustainable fabric which is suitable for the environment .

Mostly the names are quirky and the processes are so complex that the sustainability is in question. lyocell is obtained from cellulose of trees and is processed with synthetic substances, much like viscose or typical rayon.  It is sustainable and organic and commonly extracted from oak , birch , eucalyptus, bamboo, and beech .  They grow very fast and do not require irrigation or pesticides . They are then broken down to chips and loaded into a vat of chemical digesters which then makes the chips soft . This extracted pulp is then immersed in water with bleach for sanitisation . Then it is dried in a sheet and rolled into spools. Therefore the cellular is dissolved into a clear liquid and filtered . Then the cellulose is converted to long , thin fibres.  They are then washed and dried and carded. The procedure employs a ‘closed-loop’ system, in which all chemicals are recycled and reused again and over.

FEATURES OF LYOCELL

Lyocell is breathable and moisture-wicking. It can be used for making  eco-friendly underwear, towels ,jeans and shirts. It is called a miracle fabric as well.  This is a versatile fabric and very flexible for the manufacturers. Using controlling fibrillation  , it can be shaped into a variety of designs without compromising quality. Zit is so soft to touch that it has been compared to silk as well. It is smooth on the skin and looks pretty. This material offers high strength and elasticity which transform it to a highly durable fabric. Because of its lightweight , it does not wrinkle quickly. It provides extremely high moisture absorption which is better than cotton. Not only does it originate from the wood , the process is eco-friendly as well.

In 2018, the global production of Lyocell reached 415.6kg tonnes and it’s expected to double for 2027. Lyocell is highly coveted as it’s biodegradable and compostable .  Lyocell products would only take a couple of months to decompose as it is made from wood . The variety and wonderful comfort you can enjoy with lyocell garments are undoubtedly the greatest benefits. It is hundred percent biodegradable.

CLOSED LOOP

Lyocell  production process is a “closed loop”: the manufacturing process of lyocell  doesn’t create harmful by-products. The dissolvent chemicals involved in the creation are non toxic and can be reused over and over. It’s  processed through a low energy, low water, closed-loop machine that recycles over 99.5% of the chemicals/solvents utilized in production, with the ultimate 0.5% discharged as non-risky effluent. Furthermore, the cloth is extraordinarily long lasting and hence lengthy lasting. And whilst your product’s time has come you’ve got nothing to fear as it’s far 100% biodegradable. Also, as stated above, the bushes used for lyocell do now no longer require pesticides, fertilizers, or irrigation. Amine oxide, which is one of the solvents involved in the Lyocell fiber production process, isn’t harmful and it’s totally recyclable.

Lyocell is more expensive than cotton due to the technology used in its processing. Due to lyocell’s low surface energy it is challenging to adhere to some dyes. Hand-wash delicate materials in cool water with a light detergent and allow it to dry. Lyocell shrinks a small percentage the first time it’s washed, but it won’t shrink again after that.

Designing Package : A Story To Tell

Packaging is much more than just a cover , it is much more than what meets the eye. Plenty of research and reasoning goes into the designing a package as it is more than just a container , it is a marketing strategy. It delivers the message of the brand and just not the information of the content. The packaging of a product is supposed to be elegant , opulent and appealing. Hence the design of the package is essential.

Packaging is where a brand can get creative and do its best to enhance the image of the brand. A good design can provide a brand the competitive edge. Packaging fulfils various roles such as Identification of the product , Protection of the product , Marketing and Transportation . Potent product packaging will make a distinct place for itself on the shelf. It should be simple and should clearly communicate with the consumers regarding its content and any necessary information.

Packaging and Storytelling

It should go hand in hand and should deliver a brand’s idea and thoughts. Humans are creatures of habit and tend to go for the same used brands and the renowned one . If you attach a story and emotions to your product , you will be able to make a place in not just their  home but even in their mind.

Packaging is the first thing a customer can see and first impressions play a vital role and decides the future. It needs to lead the customer on the path of exploration of the beliefs and tale of the brand. Through the use of various textures or colours or scent . The brand can invoke feelings in the consumer.

You should identify your target audience and your packaging should resonate with them. There should be visuals that explain the product . It should explain what the brand believes in . Consumers respond to an appealing and clever design.

Ways to create Luxury Packaging

The act of shopping has now become an experience, and packaging plays a crucial role in this. The cue to the ultimate game of attracting customers is affixing a value at this stage. Luxury packaging denotes that the brand has taken much effort to present the product and care about their customers. It signifies the brand and tells its tale without actual words.

In the extant world, where e-business takes over, a real-life experience needs to leave a mark that the online world cannot provide. It should communicate with the consumers and deliver the brand’s idea. Even for the gifting purpose, it makes the memory unforgettable and delightful. The packaging should start charming the consumers even before getting to the main product.

Usually, brands go for the visual design and spend a hefty amount on its looks. While targeting customers, we can keep many things in mind, like how it feels and smells. This can elevate the whole journey of getting the product. The sensory qualities of a product can level up the excitement and expectations of the consumers in no time. Tactile senses should be aimed.

Ways to put luxury in your ordinary packaging

  1. Exclusivity: The brand needs to present something to its customer which is exclusive and authentic to its existence and stands different from the usual. It needs to have its own identity and take the consumer on a journey of exploration.
  2. High-end quality: the brand must not compromise on the material used in the making of the design. Packaging represents the brand, so even with a slight dissatisfaction, customers can question the brand’s integrity. Artisanal objects can be used in the making to give a superior look.
  3. Colours: loud colours should be used with caution as they can confuse other colours—subtle colours give a premium look. Muted tones with matte finish look elegant.
  4. Sustainability: if the packaging is recyclable and sustainable, it will show the brand’s concern for social responsibilities and gain customers’ trust.
  5. Smooth and simple: luxury packaging doesn’t mean overdoing it. Minimalistic packaging that looks luxurious and has smooth finishing that feels luxurious can attract attention from the right consumers.
  6. Layering: you can add excitement to a customer’s experience by adding layers of packaging but make sure that these materials don’t make unwanted noise, just like opening plastic packaging.
  7. Durability: This is one of the trickiest things in this. Luxury packaging should withstand environmental calamities, which take a lot of time.
  8. Strike the attention: The packaging should be attractive and designed professionally with expertise.
  9. Scent infused: Scent infused packaging can alleviate the stress away and involve the consumer in this whole journey of discovery.
  10. Design and Decor: Consumers often choose to decorate their surroundings with things that have an aesthetic vibe. The design needs to be appealing and attractive, causing the consumer to give the packaging a place in their abode, which will, in turn, remind them of it. The unusual characteristics can grab the attention as well.
  11. Delivery of message: The packaging of the product plays an essential role in delivering the intentions and message of the brand. It is as important as the brand logo as it is very close to the brand.
  12. Adhere to consumer’s expectation: The consumer should feel exclusivity; they should realise that they are valued, and their money is being valued. They should feel a sense of security that they are getting more for their money.

There are plenty of competitors for a product. Packaging can help a brand stand differently. It decides where the product lives and adds value to it. In the process of advertising to the wealthy, luxury packaging smoothens up the way to create an event so memorable that it leaves a mark on the customer, compelling the customer to be loyal. It adheres to quality and status. A good design can serve as an emotional appeal to the customer.

YOU CAN ALSO VISIT OUR BLOG RELATED TO ORGANIC ALTERNATIVES TO PLASTIC BAGS HERE.

Organic alternatives to plastic bags

Plastic, earlier known as parkesina, was discovered in 1856 by British Chemist Alexander Parkes. It was manufactured as an inexpensive alternative to ivory. Plastic was very light and stable chemically. Plastic could be easily moulded and has good insulation, and low thermal conductivity and the best part was that it did not rust. Due to its various properties, it started getting made widely. Due to its economic point, plastic started replacing many materials and used in almost every sector, including packaging, building material, consumer things, textiles, machinery, and transportation.

The same properties which made plastic extremely stable also made it extremely difficult to dispose of. And that is when it was realized that it probably is not the best invention in the history of humans. The disposal and degradation become an environmental hazard as the breakdown of plastic pollutes oceans, air and the whole of our ecosystem. Microplastic has reached all corners of the globe through water bodies and has catastrophically affected the oceans and aquatic bodies. Millions of animals get killed by plastic by entanglement and starvation.

The solution to most of these problems is to reduce and control the use of plastic. There have been a lot of movements and bans on plastic. It is really difficult and next to impossible to quit the usage of plastic as it is so widely used, but there are alternatives present. We should not let plastic enter our water bodies in the first place as once it breaks down and scatters, it is impossible to recover.

Talking about the alternatives to plastic, there are some places where we cannot avoid plastic usage, but we have better and eco-friendly substitutes. It is challenging to find substitutes in this plastic filled world. These things can seem a little heavy on the pocket at first if compared to plastic, but they are reusable and, for the most part, better for the world.

  1. Grocery bags: A tote bag can be easily used as a replacement for carrying numerous plastic bags.
  2. Silicon bags: Plastic bags are used a single time and thrown for most parts. Silicone bags can be used for carrying fruits and veggies.
  3. Bagasse: due to its extreme malleability and capacity to be moulded, this product of sugarcane can be used for food packaging, and it’s very rigid and sturdy
  4. Stainless steel straws: Plastic straws are historical and used extensively. A healthier option is to use no straw or shift to aesthetic-looking stainless steel straws and bamboo straws that are all over the market with your pretty mason jars.
  5. Clay bottles: Clay bottles are reusable and can keep the water rather cool for much longer.
  6. Glasswares: Glass is not biodegradable, but for the most part, it is reusable and cheap
  7. Menstrual cups: Sanitary pads are made up of plastic mostly, and their disposal can take over 800 years. Incineration is proposed, but it gives life to another kind of pollution. Usage of cotton pads and menstrual cups are much more sustainable.
  8. Earthen cookware: Teflon coated utensils can cause health risks by releasing toxins in the environment and the food. Using steelwares and earthen pots are beneficial as the food prepared gets rich in aroma and is hotter for longer.
  9. Bamboo toothbrushes: Plastic toothbrushes are the second-largest plastic waste generated after plastic bags. Even the bristles are made up of petroleum based plastic which does not degrade for years. Using bamboo might seem like a tiny change, but the statistics show that it can make all the difference.

There are many inventions made every day to have substitutes for plastic. Bioplastic is another term that sounds promising, and they are biodegradable. The idea is to use vegetable oils and starches to make the plastic so that petroleum consumption is reduced. Even if you throw the bioplastic in water, marine life can eat it. Edible cutlery and compostable trash bags are some real game-changers. A startup in the United Kingdom has invented an edible seaweed water bubble to quench to replace water bottles. It is a long war against plastic, and we can make some small changes to alter this whole plastic oriented life.
